I Scream Records is re-releasing Earth Crisis' "Breed the Killers" album on November 4, 2008 in the US and on November 7, 2008 in Europe. The totally remastered CD features two live bonus tracks - "No Allegiance" and the previously unreleased "Standing Corpses".
Haling from Syracuse, New York, Earth Crisis is heavy hardcore taken to a new level, a steely combination of technical chops and bilious ferocity. "On 'Breed the Killers' I think we achieved the most honest representation of our sound without sounding too raw or too slick," says drummer Dennis Merrick. The CD was produced by Andy Sneap, who has worked with Megadeth, Machine Head, Arch Enemy and Killswitch Engage. The reunited Earth Crisis will self-produce its new album and is set to begin tracking next month. Acclaimed producer Tue Madsen (Sick Of It All, Dark Tranquillity, The Haunted) will handle mixing and mastering duties.
Earth Crisis is an American metalcore band from Syracuse, New York. From 1991 to 1997, this straight edge vegan metal group put out six albums, each one progressively becoming more complex and sophisticated. Their sonic influence can be felt and heard in bands like P.O.D. Slipknot, and System Of A Down. They have reunited and been active again since 2007.
Earth Crisis is known for supporting animal rights (including organizations such as the Animal Liberation Front) and promoting a straight edge, vegan lifestyle.
Lyrics are replete with strong statements, many concerning animal abuse and political issues. The title song from their second 7", entitled Firestorm, with lyrics depicting a neighborhood submerged in drug addiction and crime, became an anthem for followers of the straight edge ideology.
In 2007, Earth Crisis played the Maryland Metal and Hardcore Festival, and played a west coast reunion show at the Ventura Theatre. A 10 day tour of Europe was announced shortly after the Ventura show. Earth Crisis headlined the Firestorm Fest supported by Terror, Sworn Enemy, Shai Hulud, Down To Nothing and Recon. In February, MTV.com quoted vocalist Karl Buechner as having said that Earth Crisis is writing new material. "The best way to describe it is it's a mixture between Destroy the Machines and Breed the Killers". The new album is expected to be released early in 2009.
